Drink in the history of the Virgin Islands.
Our friends and neighbors from Old Estate Rums on St Thomas, USVI are finally bringing their premium rums Stateside! For years they have been limiting their small batch artisanal spirits to the Islands only, much to the frustration of infrequent island visitors. They like to think of their Old Estate blended rum styles as “history in a bottle”, reminiscent of what you might have drunk in the 1800s, when swashbuckling St. Thomas rum traders bought and sold rums from the different islands.
They offer 3 varieties of spirits; The Perservance Bay Cream, the Havensight Liquer and the Botany Bay Rum. The Cream and the Liquer are great after dinner drinks or even cordials.
My preference is the Botany Bay Rum; its great mixed with tonic and a big wedge of lime over ice or simply straight-up \ on-the-rocks for smooth sipping. All 3 are premium spirits and deliver a distinctly Caribbean flavor and smooth finish. Plus, the bottles will look great on your bar: The beautiful labels feature historically significant depictions of St. Thomas by Danish artist Fritz Melbye (1826-1869), who traveled widely throughout the Caribbean painting seascapes and harbor scenes.
